Right let us get this started.
Today I was working in Skelmersdale http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skelmersdale
Carbon Reduction is the name of the game today. Installing new street lighting that is better for the environment, it costs less to run and they have a unit on them that dims the light by 50% from 22:30 to 06:00.
Skelmersdale has a poor reputation amongst some folk in Lancashire. The folk were put there when Liverpool cleared some of their estates. It has been sadly neglected and no real good stuff has happend without protest. Others treat the inhabitants poorly and if you come from Skelmersdale, you are a sub class. That is how other folks see Skelm folk.
Everytime I work there the thoughts of this do upset me. If folk are constantly treated like shite they will start to act like it.
To add a little positive to this area I always try to do a little extra, clear overhanging bushes from paths and go a little extra distance to enhance folks lives, basicaly, being nice, smiling and helpful.
It borders Beacon Park and the historic Up Holand http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upholland
It has some open scrub around it and the odd remaining farm.
During the past years, land was lent and borrowed according to needs, when the council purchaced it to build the New town, it caused alot of problems, which are still ongoing today.
